Election Committee members of the Academic Staff of the Association of the University of Hong Kong raised concerns on issues in the higher education sector, including future development of higher education, academic freedom, institutional autonomy, management integrity, and constitutional reform to Chief Executive candidate Mrs. Regina Ip.
Mrs. Ip met with Election Committee members from Academic Staff on Friday (Jan 20) including Roger Wong Hoi Fung, Cheung Sing Wai, Cheung Kie Chung, Felix Ng Kwok Yan and Albert Yeung Tak Chung.
After the closed-door meeting, Mrs. Ip said: “We had a candid exchange on a wide variety of issues, one of which was constitutional reform. As I have stated in my platform, if I were elected as Chief Executive, I would strive to relaunch consultation on constitutional reform based on the 8.31 decision. The 8.31 decision is irrevocable. Rational discussion is only possible with the recognition of this fact. If I were elected, I would truthfully inform the Central Government of our people’s views in hopes of moving the reform forward.”
Mrs. Ip and her team will continue to meet various parties and organisations to explain her policy platform and seek support.
